department has been innovative in its approach to mathematics.
Examples of some innovations include:
Maths
Trails
In nearby streets and around the school grounds.
Entertained the whole school during a sponsored walk and parents
on an Open Evening.

These have involved pupils and parents on Saturday mornings.
Puzzles and investigations galore.

Fun Days
Jointly organised with St.Edmund's and involved sixty pupils
on a Saturday morning.

Held at the local football club on two occasions.
Activities included:

This
project was funded through the Teacher Enhancement Project.
Building
Bridges
A cross curricular project with Science which involved pupils
building and testing bridges. It involved pupils from Year
9.
SMARTIES
A cross curricular initiative with Science and Technology.
Pupils had to work as part of a team to design, build and
test a crane.
Numeracy
Week
Organised with the School Library and involved presentations,
displays, quizzes and activities.
Maths
Masterclasses
A recent innovation aimed at resit GCSE pupils.
A whole day was devoted to improving skills using tests, activities
and presentations.
Lunchtime
Club
Pupils use a range of ILS packages to improve their mathematical
skills at lunchtime.
The LEA Maths Advisor provides support for this activity.
