Four pupils qualify for national cross-country finals

It is not uncommon for S. Peter’s pupils’ to reach the English Schools’ Cross-country finals, with Molly Perkins and Liam Payne being past qualifiers, but this year is a record-breaker. Four year 9 pupils have qualified for the national finals in Blackburn on 14th March 2015 following impressive performances at the West Midlands Championships in January. Amelia Samuels stormed to victory in the Junior girls’ race, qualifying as the fastest West Midlands female for the second consecutive year. Zoe Brickley finished in 6th place, claiming the final qualifying spot. This is the second national schools’ final that Zoe has qualified for, having previously claimed a place at the upcoming Biathlon final at the Olympic Park. Harry Dyall (4th) and Matthew Hogg (5th) have qualified for the Junior boys’ race for the second year in a row and will be hoping to go perform even better this time round. All four athletes train and compete at Wolverhampton and Bilston Athletics Club. We are exceptionally proud of these athletes and those that made it as far as the West Midlands Championships.

We have great strength and depth in cross-country running at S. Peter’s and we are always looking for keen and enthusiastic runners to train and compete. Cross-country club runs every Wednesday lunch time with Mr Marston.
