Cross-country medal rush

The cross-country season kicked off with a new and gruelling course at Moseley Park School. Nearly 60 S.Peter’s student rose to the challenge and put in excellent performances across all races.

Fifteen S. Peter’s students were selected to represent Wolverhampton at the West Midlands Cross-Country trials in Sutton Coldfield on 15th October, an incredible achievement. A special congratulations to these students – Phoebe Clear (Y7), Benaihah Osarogiaghon (Y7), Bethan Dyall (Y8), Abigail Preston (Y9), Reuben Kothiria (Y9), Dayo Ilori (Y8), Sunny Dhaliwal (Y9), Zoe Brickley (Y11), Lucy Evans (Y11), Victoria Gough (Y10), Olivia Davies (Y10), Jorgie Pendrous (Y10), Matthew Hogg (Y11), Harry Dyall (Y11) and Peter Taylor (Y11).

S. Peter’s students finished 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th and 7th in the Y10/11 girls’ race and 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 10th in the Y10/11 boys, with Zoe Brickley and Lucy Evans taking Gold and Silver medals and Matthew Hogg and Harry Dyall taking Silver and Bronze. Both girls and boys teams won the Y10/11 team event.

In the year 8/9 race, the S.Peter’s girls’ again placed first and second, with Bethan Dyall crossing the line just before Abigail Preston. Beth and Abi were backed up by strong performances across the rest of the team, most notably by Gracie Hallett and Caitlin Price. Unfortunately it wasn’t quite enough to claim first place in the team event, finishing one point behind WGHS. Despite finishing in 2nd, 4th, 5th and 9th position, the Y8/9 boys’ team were also narrowly beaten to first place in the team event.

All the year 7’s did themselves and the school proud in their first cross-country event. The girls’ team finishing third and the boys’ joint first.

Well done to everyone who took part. Once again students showed great levels of comradery and support and a fantastic team spirit. Good luck to those who qualified for the West Midlands trials.

Cross-country training is open to any one of any ability and takes place on a Monday lunch time. Come down to the PE department and have a go.
