S. Peter’s Collegiate School Big Band at Goodyear Pavilion

Pictured here are S. Peter’s Collegiate School Big Band who entertained members of the Wolverhampton Friendship 050 Club at Goodyear Pavilion on Tuesday 15th September.

Returning to the band for this occasion were former student band members Sarah Partington, Nathan Smith and Lydia Goodall and it was lovely to hear them with the band again.

In a full evening of musical entertainment the band played in swing, ballad, rock, funk and latin styles, and accompanied Lydia, sensitively as she sang four vocal numbers. Some members of the audience even managed to make their way to the dance floor for a few numbers.

It is the second time the band have been invited to perform for the 050 club and we hope to return to the Pavilion next year to do it all again!

Thank you to all the band members past and present and also to parents for supporting music making at S. Peter’s.

Gold Award at the National Concert Band Festival 2015

This is a picture of S.Peter’s Collegiate School Training Band in action at the Royal Northern College of Music on Saturday 11th April this year, where they achieved a Gold Award in the finals of the National Concert Band Festival.

This is the first time the band have been invited to participate in the finals and the award places them at the very top of music making in the country for their age group.

Comments received from the adjudicators following S. Peter’s Band performance commented of their ‘very professional approach’, ‘very controlled work’, ‘lots of punchy articulation and excitement’

Reverend Steve Walters, Acting Principal said, “This is a magnificent achievement which recognises the high standard of music at S.Peter’s Collegiate School.  The event itself was very special as it allowed our musicians to play alongside top class professional musicians.  Well done to all concerned particularly the Music Department for all their dedication, hard work and preparation for the event.”

Hairspray Success

A massive thank you to everyone who attended, or supported the school production of ‘Hairspray’. The show was a complete sell-out and has been extremely well received by audience members.

The 54 strong cast, made up of students from Year 8 to 13, performed with confidence and enthusiasm, accompanied by the incredibly talented student band.

Mrs Bowden, Chair of Governors, said, ‘The show was superb, the cast have done S. Peter’s proud.’

Well done to everyone involved!

Concert Band and Big Band to perform at Perton

On Saturday 8th March, S. Peter’s Collegiate School Concert Band and Big Band will perform at Perton Civic Centre at the invitation of Perton Christian Fellowship Romanian Projects.

Last year our Training Band, Irish Band and Young Voices played at a similar event hosted by PCF; the Civic Centre at Perton was full to capacity and presentations via short talks and slides were of great interest to our students who learnt about how money is raised to help homeless street children of Romania.

The event begins at 7.30pm and parents are most welcome to attend and support our musicians – tickets available from School Reception at £5 each or £12 for a family ticket.

(Band members should arrive at the venue by 5.30pm, in full uniform)
